PIOSEE for team coaching

I like watching air crash investigations, for me, they are sad to watch as people have died or suffered injuries. However, at the same time, it is fascinating to see how the investigators’ team tries to connect several dots and find the reasons that they can make improvements in the aviation industry to ensure passengers’ safety.

I learned that when the pilots are reacting to a crises situation they use different procedures. Pilots are renowned for following procedures or checklists, they follow them to reduce errors to ensure the safety of passengers on board. One example is the Sully movie where pilots diagonized the problems and took the decision accordingly. It was great to see how those decisions are made having a number of years of experience!

I have been doing team coaching for a while and felt that the PIOSEE acronym resonates with the work I do. Of course, it can’t be a direct parallel and in a different context however there are some learnings to take away!

It is not a choice however driven by COVID-19 pandemic circumstances. it has become the new reality and we need to accept this sad reality and move forward with an open and innovative mindset.

This talk is about a mindset shift to lead remote teams effectively. We will explore together four levels comprising individual, team, management, and organization. What are the different strategies to collaborate with focus and energy high? How to decrease the psychological distance to keep the communication happening with a clear purpose and engagement.

Why is it important to understand the Agile mindset?

Let’s answer this question in two steps, first starting with building an understanding of an Agile mindset.

Step 1: What is an Agile mindset?

There are two explanations that have helped me to understand it. 

Definition 1- An Agile mindset is an approach to managing uncertainty (Ahmad Sidky)

  • Fail fast and learn fast that results in seeking learning opportunities
  • Decreasing uncertainty by exploring and learning
  • Learn and explore in an efficient way
  • Empower individuals and teams to use the collective wisdom

Talk Description

In 2003, I started my first internship at a small company. It was simple and yet amazing to integrate different open source products into a working solution to provide customer value.

It was not a picture cut into the puzzle pieces and ready to assemble again, however, it required some code understanding and interface tweaks to make the user application flow smoother and easier.
